RAA Southern Tier
This is my next planned cross country route including one alternate route, and one planned detour. I will be cycling from West to East - San Diego, California to St Augustine, Florida.
The trip will take me through eight states. The total mileage of the planned route is ~3713.6mi (5976.5km), with an estimated ascent of ~82,121ft (25,030.5m).
The route map was planned using a bicycling route established by Adventure Cycling Association and aptly named the Southern Tier Bicycle Route.
I will be taking one alternate route to visit the Ancient Native American Cave Dwellings in New Mexico, and a detour to Space X on the south west border of Texas with Mexico. I am hoping to see a rocket launch at Space X.

There are 7 individual section maps of the trip, and an additional detour during Section 4 that maps the planned trip to Space X.

Southern Tier Section 1
​
This section starts in San Diego, California and ends in Tempe, Arizona. The total distance for this section is 432.4mi (695.9km).

The current route includes a long detour on Interstate 8 due to roadworks. I am hoping that the original route will be open by the time I get there, as it will be more interesting!

Southern Tier Section 2

This section starts in Tempe, Arizona, and ends in El Paso, Texas. The total distance for this section is 512.9mi (825.4km).

From Silver City, New Mexico, there is an alternate route that goes to Gila Cliff Dwellings. My intention is to take the alternate route and visit the Ancient dwellings of the Native Americans. I will still end this section in El Paso, Texas.

Southern Tier Section 3

This section starts in El Paso, Texas and ends in Del Rio, Texas. The total distance for this section is 432.6mi (696.2km).

Southern Tier Section 4 (Detour to Space X)

This section starts in Del Rio, Texas. From there the route heads south to Boca Chica Village, Texas, home to Space X. From Boca Chica Village I will head North East and join the original planned route in Austin, Texas. The total distance for this section is 820.7mi (1320.8km).

Southern Tier Section 4

This is the original section 4 starting in Del Rio, Texas and ending in Navasota ,Texas.

After visiting Space X, I will be joining this route map in Austin, Texas.

This section starts in New Orleans, Louisiana and ends in Defuniak Springs, Florida. I fancy the idea of taking the ferry across to Dauphin Island, exploring the island, then taking the ferry across to Gulf Shores, Florida.
The total distance for this section is 306.3mi (493km).

This section starts in De Funiak Springs, Florida and ends at The Bridge of Lions, St. Augustine, Florida. The total distance for this section is 390.9mi (629.1km).
