Day 71 - TransAm Express East Bound - August 21st

Rushville, IN to West College Corner, IN

I awoke to find it was raining. After checking the weather, I decided to wait until it cleared and then get going. I eventually got on my way at ~9:45am. I only encountered light drizzle en route, but by the time I reached the State Park (for camping), a storm was building up, so I decided to continue and find accommodation that would give me decent shelter. It was a good decision - the storm broke shortly after I left the State Park.

At first there was plenty of tree cover, giving me time to get into my rain gear.

Once I left the tree cover and joined US27 where there was no cover whatsoever, the heavens really opened up, and all I could do was pedal as fast as possible, hoping to find shelter. Before long I was totally soaked - the rain gear is water resistant, but not waterproof in a heavy storm.

College Corner is a little over 8 miles from the park. As I cycled into the west end of town I noticed a sign advertising 'The Doctor's Inn' and immediately turned in to see if I could get accommodation.

I walked into the inn dripping, but happy to be out of the rain. I apologized to the owner, Jay. He just laughed, told me not to worry, and said he would open the garage door for me to bring the bike and my luggage inside out of the rain, while he got a room sorted for me.

College Corner is an interesting place. The Indiana/Ohio state line runs through the town. The Inn is on the Indy side of the state line, and the business part of town on the Ohio side.

The sign I saw as I came into the town

The Inn - it used to be the local Doctor's residence and consulting rooms.

A really old Beetle. A bit neglected, but still great.

Confusing Signs

The first two signs are a few yards from where I stayed. The Doctor's Inn is in Indiana, whereas the neighbor across the road is in Ohio.
