About five miles into today's ride, I noticed a dog standing on the grass next to the apron, watching me. As I drew closer, the dog turned around and started running on the grass just ahead of me. He then ran along ahead of me for almost two miles. At that point, I lost sight of the dog but saw him again as I came through a bend. He had stopped running, turned around, and watched me approach. When I got closer, he decided to cross the road in front of the oncoming traffic. That nearly gave me heart failure, but fortunately, the drivers in both directions had seen the dog, slowed down, and waited for him to cross the road. When the dog reached the other side, it stopped, looked back, and then disappeared into the brush.
