The day started well enough. There was a bit of a chill in the air, but nothing serious. According to the weather forecast, the cold front should be hitting this area in the next day or so.
As I was cruising along a beautiful tree-lined road, I noticed something on the road ahead of me. I didn't take too much notice, as I am used to pieces of wood that come off trucks, and branches lying on the road. As I got closer though, I saw it moving. It turned out to be a little alligator (about 12" to 18" long) going across the road. I could just hear my friend Fred telling me, "Do NOT stop for alligators, get out of there quickly".
I gave the alligator a wide berth and cycled on quickly. I didn't want to meet any family members.
About 13 miles from my destination, I came across a closed bridge. It turns out that this bridge is one of three that were closed over two years ago, apparently because of the swamps and ecosystem. There was a detour, but it was a 120-mile detour, and it was getting late, so I decided to look for accommodation.
