Although it was a long ride, it was a great ride. More than 80% of the ride was on the Mississippi River Bike Path/Trail (Path or Trail is dependent on which Parish you are in). The only times you get off the trail, are when work is in progress to raise the levees.
I met a very nice gentleman (Dennis) from the UK. It was his very first day in the USA and he was extremely excited about the trip. It would have been great to have a long chat with him, but we had to cut it short as I needed to get on the road, and he had to meet up with some folk.
About 5 miles into the ride, I stopped at a service station to buy much-needed Body Armor. When I returned to my bike, a cat was sitting in my seat and sniffing and playing with the brake and gear cables. The cat was having so much fun, it did not even move when I came towards the bike. I eventually had to gently push the cat off the seat, where it promptly started playing with a small plastic signage board lying on the ground.
About 10 miles outside of New Orleans, I met up with another cyclist (Randall) who was out for an afternoon ride, and on his way back into the city. Randall was gracious enough to guide me into town and to make sure I was on the correct road to get me to my accommodation. Thanks again, Randall.
