Sioux City, IA to Missouri Valley, IA
In yesterday's blog I mentioned finding myself in three states, and finally staying overnight in Iowa. The campground was right on the border - see map below.
What a great day for a ride; acceptable temperatures made for a wonderful day.
The campsite I stayed at tends to flood every few years. The section that houses the cabins and where the tents are pitched is in the flood zone. The RV sites are higher up and further away. One of the site supervisors that lives there told me it is an absolutely spectacular site when flooding occurs. The flood zone area turns into a lake, and creates a spectacular visual image. Apparently there are ongoing efforts by city, county, and state engineers to solve the problem.
Along the way, just outside of Onawa, Siouxland, I saw a beautifully restored old car and just had to take a picture. The owner proudly gave his permission. It turns out that not only does he restore classic cars, he also converts them into street rods. He is currently busy with a conversion, but unfortunately I was not able to take a picture of this work in progress.
My planned destination for today was Mondamin, but I arrived to find that it is a tiny town with a population of under 400, and no accommodation. Needless to say I "got back in the saddle again" and headed for Missouri Valley.
