Two very interesting locations on the ride today were the little village of Anderson and the Sam Houston National Forest.
Riding into Anderson, I saw a sign that said 'Population 83'. Based on the numbers I've seen online, the town seems to have more than halved its population over the last four years. It is quite quaint and registered as a historic place. Coming into the town from the west, there is a home that was amongst the first to have been built there. There is also a beautiful courthouse at the end of the main street.
What I remember most about the town, is the steep hill as I left the town. My legs were burning by the time I reached the top.
Soon after, I arrived at the Sam Houston National Forest. What a pleasure! The road through there is in tip-top condition, with more than enough space for a bike.
The forest covers a vast area, and I cycled the tree-lined road all the way to just before New Waverly.
