I spent most of the day on a frontage road right next to the 90 going east.
It may be that the frontage road was the main road before the 90 was built.
Along the way, I met up with yet another guy going West. We didn't spend much time chatting, as we both wanted to get to our overnight towns and away from the continuous noise from the traffic on the freeway. It certainly seems that the Southern Tier route is more popular than the Northern Tier.
Coming into Marathon surprised me somewhat. It is a well-kept little town, unlike others that I have gone through. Once I started talking to the locals it became very apparent that they are proud of their town, and all of them want the town to be successful.
At the camp, they have a demarcated area where the local astrologer comes and teaches anyone interested in how to identify the various stars and planets.
I thought I would go and join in, but unfortunately, the skies were too overcast, so the event was canceled.

Morning, I did some reading and found out that the town of Marfa,was supposed to be the American headquarters of the Cosa nostra, the Marfia,but they shot the guy because he couldn't spell!!
His wife ran to the next town for help,and they then named that town...marathon.
